Athenry have lost the Connacht Final in Castlebar to Swinford GC.
After an epic battle where all five matches ebb and flowed, Philip Somers and his players were left devastated by how near they came to claiming the coveted Jimmy Bruen pennant. The top match went to the 22nd hole, in a high quality game Athenry made Swinford earn the pendant by twice making top class up and downs on Castlebar's tricky 18th green. Swinford won the 2nd match on the 19th hole and the 3rd match on the 18th. The bottom two matches were evenly poised playing 18 when called in. With the All-Ireland Finals on in Castlebar, an impressive Swinford side will have a great chance of an All Ireland pennant and we wish them well.
